Segment 1 – Introduction

[May]

Hello, 大家好, नमस्ते, สวัสดี, Selamat!

My name is May and I’ll be hosting the AMA with Splinterlands.

Today, we have with us a guest from the Splinterlands Team.

[Aggroed]

It’s great to be here.  Thanks for hosting this.

[May]

You’re welcome and we’re glad to have you.

How’s your day going?

[Aggroed]

Man Thursday’s are always packed and this game never lets me sleep.  But those are all first world problems as this fame is going great

[May]

Haha! Nice!

Before we get into the session, could you please tell us a bit about yourself and your awesome role at Splinterlands?

[Aggroed]

I’m the founder and CEO.  I come with a sales, marketing, and publishing background.

[May]

All-in-one! You’re awesome!

Let’s now take some questions about what you’ve created – Splinterlands.

Ready?

[Aggroed]

Let’s go

[May]

Can you tell us about Splinterlands and the inspiration that got it started?

[Aggroed]

Splinterlands got started back in 2018 when cryptokitties was booming.  We thought that blockchain collectibles were awesome but that blockchain gaming was the ultimate step.

[May]

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What innovative solution is Splinterlands bringing to topple its competitors with similar offerings in GameFi and the NFT sector?

[Aggroed]

The most likely outcome of any crypto project is that they raise money and produce nothing that works.  So our first innovation is a fun game that’s play-to-earn.  Secondly, we think that gas kills the gaming experience so on top of a fun way to play and earn we try to reduce fees along the way as much as possible.  Lastly, I think our approach to passive income through renting Individually cards is going exceptionally well.

[May]

Very thoughtful solutions!

Could you talk about the distinguishing features of Splinterlands?

[Aggroed]

Sure. Splinterlands is a play-to-earn game where you can play anytime. Trade anytime and earn every win.  Our technology enables gas-free gaming, community growth, guild play, asynchronous tournaments, card renting, and highly engaging gameplay with rules that constantly change and tons of abilities and ability combos that keep each match fresh.

[May]

Awesome!

Could you briefly talk about your reward and earning models on Splinterlands?

[Aggroed]

I’m glad you brought that up. Rewards and earning models are varied.  If you double your rank you quadruple your earning.  That’s the start of it.  But you can buy cards and rent them.  Complete daily quests.  Get season rewards.  Leaderboard position rewards.  Tournament rewards.  Make money trading. And there’s hosting of rewards coming with the SPS development which include running oracles and liquidity provision.

[May]

Good to know!

What is the Tome of Chaos?

[Aggroed]

Tome of chaos is essentially our growing vault of modern lore.  We wrote a book about the history of splinterlands.

Now we’re working on the current events.  Tome of chaos has stories about the world of splinterlands and the characters inside of it.

[May]

Nice!

Can you talk about $SPS and the utilities?

[Aggroed]

Definitely.

SPS is our governance token.  It unlocks community decisions in the game.  Simple things like what stats are appropriate or how tournament prizes should be structured.  It also incentivizes behavior that we want like lp staking and more.

[May]

Do you have an APR or APY for your liquidity provision?

[Aggroed]

There’s an allocation in the white paper for liquidity, but it hasn’t begun yet.

[May]

Okay

What major news should we still look forward to from Splinterlands by the end of the year?

[Aggroed]

Good question. Splinterlands hopes to announce some great partnerships.  We’re also in the process of releasing our 6th card edition, called chaos legion, which players are anxiously anticipating.  The presale is happening now and the general sale should be happening before the end of the year.

[May]

Looking forward to it all!

Let’s now take some questions from our Twitter community.

Segment 2 – Twitter Questions

[May]

Could you comment on exactly what the player’s capture energy rate is and what role it plays within the Splinterlands platform?

Twitter Username: @iracundito

[Aggroed]

That’s a really great question. This is an anti-bot provision we have in place. Basically, there is a limit to how many games you can play in a day and still earn rewards. If you play constantly, the way a bot could, your rewards decrease over time. We don’t ban bots but work to ensure that they don’t have an advantage in our game.

[May]

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It is possible to convert playing cards into Cryptos. So, when converting them can be done with the cryptocurrency of our preference or with Cryptos totally selected by the platform, will the same cost be implemented when making the changes in all Cryptos or are they variable?

Twitter Username: @Albe_1602

[Aggroed]

So, generally, the market trades In one of our currencies called dark energy crystals.  This is a coin with stable coin-like properties.  So when you sell NFTs you get DEC.  DEC is a cryptocurrency and can be traded on secondary markets for other cryptos like BTC, eth, and more.  That said, players can do private deals where the players set whatever terms they want for whatever currency they want and don’t need us as a middleman.

[May]

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The trading card game Splinterlands is one of GameFi’s most popular properties, having amassed more than 410,000 users and racking up 3.26 million transactions to date. Why do you think Splinterlands has been so successful to date? Innovation?

Twitter Username: @Jogamboa08

[Aggroed]

Well, we have 1.3M registered users, 700k paid accounts and hit a high of over 500k dau.  We play about 8-10million battles per day.  I think a game like this needs to build community, have a good game mechanic, and have a healthy economy.  We do all of those well, but the core of our gamer base are people that love the game and the complexity that’s there.  So, I think we really nailed it on the game front and that’s why you hear our guys talking most about how they played magic gathering on the pro tour for years.  They are gamers first and they love our game and they spread our game.

[May]

Impressive numbers!

I love the love you have for your community!

Let’s now take questions from our website community.

Segment 3 – Website Questions

[May]

How lucrative is your play-to-earn model? What are the various types of earnings and rewards a player can rack up in Splinterlands?

Telegram Username: @danWickerjil

[Aggroed]

There’s no one answer because there are so many different ways to play and many levels of success.  Generally for earning when you double your rank for winning battles you octuple your rewards.  So, the higher the rank the more you can earn, but this requires staking a lot of cards so it’s also still proportional to your stake.

[May]

Great!

So We can buy in-game credits with a variety of cryptocurrencies on your platform. So please explain what currencies are currently accepted? And Do you have an interoperable infrastructure that will support multiple blockchains? Can you also explain about HIVE cryptocurrency tokens?

Telegram Username: @ShuhaniSinha

[Aggroed]

Splinterlands is one of the interoperable blockchain-based NFT projects in the world.  We accept a ton of currencies.  NFTs trade on more than one blockchain. Hive is a great tool.  We use it as a decentralized hard drive.  It helps us as well as it’s designed for social media and helps us spread the game.

[May]

Great choice there with Hive!

Regarding the battles and the combinations that need to be performed to win, does the Splinterlands ecosystem provide any tutorials for players to learn and adopt strategies?

Telegram Username: @Kherrera22

[Aggroed]

The game provides a starter tutorial and the community provides endless combo tutorials and opinions for different leagues and combinations.

[May]

Awesome! Splinterlands has everything covered! It’s an exceptional project!

[Aggroed]

Thanks, May.  We’re really proud of what we’ve built!

[May]

I’m rooting for you all!

To round up this session, we’ll be taking four questions from our live audience.

In this 4th segment, I will open the group for some seconds for the live community to shoot you some pressing questions.

Try to ignore generic, vague, and copy-paste questions 😊

Ready?

[Aggroed]

Ok

[May]

As a measure to deter bots and reward hunters, could you please pick a sequence of four numbers that will be included in the questions so you can tell original questions apart?

[Aggroed]

9911

[May]

Awesome! The group will be unmuted shortly.

—Chat was then opened for the live community to send in their questions—

Segment 4 – Live Questions

[May]

Please select the questions now.

Kindly prioritize the questions with the selected numbers.

[Jose Gamboa]

9911   Built on top of Hive’s decentralized blockchain, Splinterlands features many nifty elements that enrich the game. Why did you decide to build Splinterlands on an unpopular blockchain? Advantages of Hive?

[Aggroed]

Everyone thought we were nuts for building on Hive and have basically asked the question as “why didn’t you idiots build on eth?”  But we knew back in 2018 that it was a substantial problem.  If every click takes a gas fee it takes the fun out of a game.  We wanted a gas-free game and built where we could make that happen.

[Shizuka]

9911 As I read, Splinterlands provides NFT based games. Then, can you please tell a little about your base platform game? And where do we get the NFT for playing the Splinterlands game? Can we use another platform NFT for playing the Splinterlands game?

[Aggroed]

Splinterlands assists can be purchased from the game directly on splinterlands.com or you can use 3rd party tools like peakmonsters.com or monster market.Io.  Players can gather in discord via discord.Splinterlands.com or telegram at t.me/splinterlandshq

[May]:

Two more questions to go 🎉

[Habibi]

9911 Reading the dynamics of the game I noticed that several events require some randomness or randomness, so how do you guarantee that this process is done in a fair, transparent, and non-manipulative way?

[Aggroed]

Splinterlands takes data that is both random and deterministic.  The output is random, but given the input, it’s always the same answer.  You need randomness to ensure that the game has a little element of luck and it has to be deterministic so that every time we replay the blocks the answer is always the same.  It’s a neat challenge and Hive provides bits of data in the blockhashes that meet these criteria.

[Vicky Jones]

9911 More than 46 skills are implemented in the game, which players can use to turn the tide of battle in unexpected and exciting ways. So, with that being the case, how can players obtain these abilities? Only through the market or can they be rewards for leveling up and winning in games?

[Aggroed]

The economics are pretty neat.  Players battle and rise in rank.  When their rank doubles they can octuple their earnings.  So players want to get higher.  To do this they combine cards which makes them more powerful, which lets them achieve a higher rank.  It also reduces the NFT supply by squishing them down.  Older editions have been squished more than 80% already, and that’s reflected on the market too.

[May]

Aaaaaaand it’s a wrap! 🎉

Any final remarks for our community?

[Aggroed]

It’s been an absolute pleasure to be here.  Thanks for hosting us.  If you message aggroed in discord over the next two hours I’ll give you an account to get started playing. Normally that costs $10 but I’ll give a code that makes it free.  Please allow up to 24 hours before code requests are satisfied.  HTTPS://discord.splinterland.com!
